Sonya was born in 1971 in Australia and
brought up in her homeland New Zealand.
Always interested in the arts she excelled at
both performing and visual arts from a young
age. From 1982-1986 while traveling on
board a ship with her missionary parents she
performed regularly in a children’s dance
troupe and was part of the international
performing team ‘King’s Kids’ in LA for the
‘84 Olympics.
After completing high school in New Zealand
with an emphasis on art she left to continue
her dance studies in Hong Kong, having
decided to follow her dancing dreams while
young and return to the fine arts later.

After satisfying her lust for performance and travel with extended stays in Egypt and Paris Sonya
settled in Mallorca, Spain in 1998 and returned her creativity to the tactile. Inspired by the beauty of
the island she began oil painting and her works are mostly warm and rich examples of local life, or
captured during regular winter visits to Italy.
